I’m so ridiculously good at being in college already and I’m not even enrolled at any University yet. (Kudos to Hannah for being both irresponsible and cheap.)
Collegism #1: I am cheap. Natalie and I (my workout bud), wanted to do some interesting, new form of working out so we decided on kickboxing because it’s just plain bad ass. I’ve been doing BodyCombat at my gym for about a year, but this time we decided to get legit.
I didn’t take any pictures of the class, but basically you wrapped your hands, threw on some gloves and punched/kicked the bag according to the instructor. (1,2,3 or 1,2, 1,2 round house, ect.) I didn’t really know what he was talking about since I’m used to “jab, hook, jab,” but I held my own well enough. We also did plyometrics like spidermen (jump with high knees), high knees, jumping jacks, cross jacks, ect. It was a really tough workout!
I’ll be touring all the surrounding gyms for their trial classes in the years to come. It is such a Hannah thing to work the system for a free workout that I can’t even deal with myself.
Today I didn’t really feel like going to the gym and there is approximately 150% humidity (Louisiana weather can really be sickening), so I didn’t want to run outside either, soo….
Collegism #2: Working out on my own, at home (or in a dorm)
Natalie (how how dang helpful she can be!), told me about the YouTube channel FitnessBlender so I decided today would be a good day to try it. They have tons of FREE videos ranging from 8 minutes to an hour and a half. They have things like abs, upper body toning, lower body toning, cardio, tabata, HIIT, Pilates and anything else under the sun.
I decided to go with these two:
The first one-“At home HIIT Cardio Workout”- was truely 24 minutes of “how the hell am I so winded/sweaty from a YouTube video.” Just because it was a free little video doesn’t undermine it’s workout potential! I was sweating like a dog from just 24 minutes-I even took a little break in some of the double butt kicks.
Definitely try out FitnessBlender (or any other free workout sources- YouTube, the road outside your house, your own body weight, a jump rope), if you want to workout without paying crazy amounts of cheddah. My only tips if you’re using an online video is that you give it time to load first (although it’s a little relief when it has to buffer 1/2 way through burpees) and to make sure you have alot of space. Other than that, get to sweating!
After Buku I was in a little funk when I didn’t feel like running and was tired of the same classes at the gym. From working out with Natalie and trying these other forms of exercise, I’ve been able to stay active without getting bored. If you’re tired of working out, take a rest day then try something new! (Like a free trial class, really)
Do you workout at home ever? How?
Have you ever done a free trial class without any intent on joining the gym?
